A slow start today. Vance uploaded some pictures for yesterday's blog while Pat read and waited for the laundry. We had turkey sandwiches for lunch and left the park about 1.p.m. Since the Heritage Park Historical Village, a site we would like to visit, closes at 5 p.m, we decided to find an RV campground closer to Calgary and go in the morning.

We left the flat land of Cochrane for the metropolis (over a million population) of Calgary. It was such a change not having any mountains to photograph. I kept looking for something. Aha - in the fields are big round bales of hay.

After finding our selected RV campground, Calgary West, we went to the Northland Village shopping mall some little distance away. Here we got Pat's glasses adjusted at LensCrafters, bought two fruit drinks from Jugo's, and, at Wal-Mart, purchased some buttons for Pat (so she can keep her shorts up) and adhesive putty for Vance (so he can attach Pat's poem - see blog entry of June 21 - to the wall of the RV).

On our way back we saw that the ski jump area of the 1988 Olympics is very close to our campground. Those Olympic venues are now sport/recreation sites. You can even do luge in the summertime!

We returned to Calgary West and settled in for the night. When we first positioned the RV, Vance discovered the outlet was just beyond the length of the cord. Now we are properly backed into position and checked for leveling.

Dinner was chicken fried rice with a salad of mandarin oranges and bananas. This simpler and slower day felt good. There are horses grazing the other side of the narrow road behind the RV. We are two happy campers. 10 p.m. It has been quite a while since we have seen the lights of a city. Feels good, too. A reminder of home.
Along the way: Winks, a local convenience store -- outdoor ice rinks, without the ice -- Sandman Motel -- Happy Days Car +
Dog Wash -- Sipping "Canada Dry Gingerale" in Canada!
Ended at Calgary West Campground, Calgary, Alberta
