Enjoyed a leisure not-on-the-road morning. John made waffles from scratch for breakfast from oats, and corn that he ground into a fine meal. We ate them with fresh blueberries, bananas, orange and apple wedges, applesauce and delicious canned peaches. Oh yes, and their homemade ground peanut butter.

Later we took a drive (with the Hamels) to Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic National Park and stopped at the information center. Washington is the "Evergreen" State. Learned about "bear cans" which are used by campers to put food and toiletries in. Anything with a scent. Spoke with a camper who said she didn't see any bears, but the raccoons could be bothersome. Picked up some nice postcards. Wow! Hurricane Ridge has incredible views. Alpine flowers and steep mountainsides. Reminded me of a favorite childhood book, "Heidi", as well as scenes from "The Sound of Music!

On the return trip we toured Port Angeles where Vance and I, and the RV, will catch the ferry to Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA! Dramatic scenery from the spit of land by the harbor. Shops along the wharf area, green hills and snow capped mountains beyond. Lovely! Watched 2 giant cruise ships negotiate the channel - the Strait of Juan de Fuca. John told about a time when he and a son had a difficult time canoeing here during a tide change - scary. [Above, view from Hurricane Ridge.]

[On left, deer in parking lot of the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center.] The Hamels are planning to move to Boise, Idaho and Sharon showed me photos of the house they hope to buy. Lots of room for when the whole family gathers.
Yummy Mexican food for supper - Sergio's has carved booths and parrot decorations similar to those in our regular Mexican restaurant at home.
Ended (stayed) at John & Sharon Hamel, Sequim, WA 98382
