On the Road - Day 35

Another difficult sleeping night, even though we were in our RV. Pat was/is sore from all of our walking and climbing of the last couple of days. We also failed to check the leveling of our RV before going to bed last night and it was off center. This caused Pat to put her head at the other end of the bed during the night - a position that didn't work well for Vance because now his feet were out from under the covers. (On such minor details are marriages tested!) You will be happy to know we worked it out. Today will be a lower key day for us.

We began with a nice breakfast of eggs, bacon and potatoes, with tea and a scone! All prepared by the chief chef of the RV, with minor assistance (he got the potatoes out of the refrigerator and heated the scone in the microwave) by the trainee chef.

Checked out of the RV park and shopped at a Safeway. Nice to be someplace familiar. Then we went to the Banff Visitor Center to learn what to do before we left Banff. (Nixed the Hot springs, which were very crowded and smelled like sulphur.) Could not find a listing of mountains with their names and pictures, so I could identify them in our photos.

Went to "Cows" - a Canadian ice cream chain. On the menu: moo york cheesecake and messie bessie. We had cowie wowie and mud puddle flavors. Yum.

As we got on Hwy. 1, Tunnel Mountain loomed over us. Banff is surrounded by mountains that are over sized, as though magnified. But I did not use my zoom lens on any Banff photos. It is a hazy day, so did not take as many photos of mountains. East of Banff we left the mountains behind and moved into green hills.

Beyond Canmore the valley widened into open grass lands. This is not farmland, except for occasional grazing cows.

And there is a steady wind blowing across the prairie. Arrived in Cochrane and went for a shower, but forgot my money. Takes a loonie ($1 Canadian) for 2 minutes of water!

Seen along the way: sign, "Sunset Boulevard" -- ranges of mountains run north to south, those facing west are grey, and dry with sparse trees - those facing east had dense forests and were green

Ended at SpringHill RV Park, Cochrane, Alberta (outside of Calgary)
