On the Road - Day 31

[Today is the 102nd anniversary of my father Kenn's birth!]

Leaving the campground this morning, we first went to the grocery store in Valemount to re-supply. While driving away from the market, the door to the refrigerator fell off (again)! Pat checked some local advertising and said there was a House of Trailers that maybe could help and they were five blocks away! (Something I would expect a first class navigator to know.:-)

The owner had retired from being a mechanic and was now primarily involved in renting out trailers but he had his tools and his experience. We were patient: Pat read her novel and I visited with those washing their cars and a large truck (this was also a do-it-yourself car washing facility). And we all had a good time. He found a way to replace the damaged hinge screw with a modified version of one of his own. Viola! Back on the road.

Next stop: lunch at The Great Escape Restaurant. I got a BLT and Pat had a Gyro with chicken and a Tzatziki sauce. We both had a tasty mushroom soup. I had a good time teasing our waitress and the food was delicious.

We then went to the Valemount Visitor Information Centre, where we were told it would be difficult to find space available at the RV parks in Jasper at this time of day. It was recommended we find space outside of the park boundary. Since it was already near 4pm (!) we picked one about 25 miles away, a provincial camp ground with space available.

On the way again. We stopped at a roadside rest and took a picture of Mt. Terry Fox, dedicated to a young man who lost a leg to cancer...then ran on an artifical leg for 5,375 kilometers, across a good part of Canada to raise funds for cancer research.

He helped raise many millions and when he died this mountain was dedicated to his memory.

We then saw a young family posing at a large sign for Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies (19,551 feet). I offered to take their picture so the camerawoman could be included. They then returned the favor and we had a brief friendly visit. They were on their way back home, to Calgary, Alberta.

It was starting to rain when we reached our campground at Mount Robson Meadows. The drizzle stopped as soon as we got situated in our new camp site and Pat went out to take some pictures while I entered our expenses for the day into our excel spreadsheet.

Ended at, Mount Robson Meadows, space 23, B.C.
