Brief thunder shower started the day. This morning John created from scratch a most delicious breakfast of scrambled tofu (did I mention that the Hamels are vegetarians?), potatoes and onions, oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar. [Picture at left is of John and Sharon at Hurricane Ridge yesterday.] Sharon prepared the fresh fruits and toast. I am touched by how kind, caring and generous the Hamels have been to us. It has been a true pleasure getting to know them. Pat then worked on setting up a blog of the trip: Meander 2009. Vance and John worked on fixing the leak around the RV's roof vent.
Began to rain about 25 miles to Forks. Stopped at the Sol Duc Salmon Hatchery and learned about 5 types of salmon. Nets over the hatchling ponds to keep birds out. [Picture of Vance and fish, at right, was taken at the Sol Duc Salmon Hatchery.]
Arrived in Forks and found the Forks 101 RV Park. One area newsletter says, "Savor all the Olympic Peninsula has to offer at a slug's pace"! Very wet here and slugs thrive. Vance put on a cassette tape of Deuter, "Land of Enchantment" - which this is. Pat walked across Rt. 101, all 2 vacant lanes - to Forks Outfitters to get a camera battery. They have a "Twilight" display by the door to catch the tourists. In the story Bella was a clerk in the Sporting Goods section of the store. Naturally I took a photo of the "Sporting Goods" aisle sign. Val will be so pleased.
Made steak, steamed broccoli, and salad for supper. Peaches for dessert. Today saw "Buzz" and "Bella Rosa Coffee Shop" - and Bella Italia restaurant, which also was mentioned in the "Twilight" book series.
Ended at 101 RV Park, Forks, WA
