On the Road - Day 27

Capilano RV Park is its own urban setting. On First Nations land below the Lions Gate Bridge, 200 RVs were packed in tight, side by side. Up early to post packages. Learned that there are Post Offices right inside the Shoppers Drug Mart, very convenient. Did you know that Canadian pigeons are bilingual? They understand "crumb" as well as "le crumb"!

Headed out Capilano Road just 2 miles to the Capilano Suspension (foot) Bridge (www.capbridge.com) where we both crossed along with many others - so the bridge was most wobbly. Also walked the boardwalk paths through the forest and along the river. Vance even walked the Treetops Adventure while I took his picture from below. Ewok-esque. And he took my picture from above.

Had a tasty salmon lunch at the Bridge House Restaurant which had a number of historic photos of when the bridge was constructed. The Suspension Bridge is North Vancouver's number 1 tourist spot - many families from all over the world were enjoying the attraction, and we heard many languages being spoken.

Crossed Lions Gate Bridge into Vancouver and took the first exit into Stanley Park's Prospect Point. A man was playing his violin there - Pachebel's Canon - music from our wedding! Very nice. Pat intended to toss a dollar (a Canadian loonie) into his violin case. She later learned, when we were getting change for our showers, that she had actually tossed in a toonie ($2) coin.

A hurricane damaged the entire park in 2006, blew down many trees and damaged buildings. Much work has been done to restore it, but the lighthouse is gone.

Watched three mischievous raccoons work the crowds at the snack bar.

Took photos of North Vancouver which reminded me of Hong Kong or The Big Island where houses go straight up the steep hillside. Drove the one-way road around the park and past Lost Lagoon for our first view of the tall buildings of downtown Vancouver.

Stopped at the Totem Poles for more photos before we left. (www.vancouverparks.ca)

Took Georgia Street through the downtown area, very "big city" with rush hour traffic. No honking, though. Women were dressed very stylishly in skirts and high heels. (I can't tell you when I wore a dress last). Connected to Highway 1 and headed to our next landing spot - Fort Camping at Fort Langley, B.C.

Before darkness set in, we took a walk along the river. Vance was welcomed by more than half a dozen mosquitoes, while Pat sailed serenely unbitten. She says it's because I am such a sweet thing. Well, off to bed now. We have a historic fur trading post to explore tomorrow!

Ended at Fort Langley Camping and RV, Fort Langley, B.C.
