Another day heading South on I-5. We saw snowy topped Mt. Shasta [left], a nearby cinder cone [below, left], and Castle Rock [below].

Drove through the hills past Lake Shasta, which looks pretty low on water. Traveled through the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. We lunched at a Rest Stop (bananas, blueberries with ham and cheese sandwiches).

South of Redding the hills receded and the Sacramento Valley opened up before us. Vast flat fertile farmland.

Went to Red Bluff dam to watch salmon climbing ladders, but the cameras were not working and we did not see any in the water. While walking to take a below-dam photo, discovered the adjacent county park which has nice RV sites. We will try to remember to use County parks in the future.

Enjoyed being in orchard country. The rows, angles and patterns delight me.

The excitement for the day was, oops, leaving the keys in the RV when we went to register at the Gridley RV Park. Tried and true, AAA had the door opened in 45 seconds! We should watch closely so we can open the doors ourselves next time.

(Actually, I got a backup key for my left pocket, so I can gain access that way if needed. - Vance) We had an tasty and abundant dinner at the bear kitsch Black Bear Diner, with enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Seen along the way: An official highway sign with a symbol for caving, a person on hands and knees with helmet and head lamp -- Exit sign for town of Antlers -- Many dry river or creek beds -- Farther south, full irrigation ditches -- "Olive Pit", Corning is the Olive City and celebrates with a festival --

Two USMC Mounted Color Guard trailers with the drivers/riders and horses.
Ended at Gridley Inn & RV Park
