Took Rt. 205, the outer perimeter belt around Portland, to I-5 South and got into a traffic jam. We never learned why the back-up occurred, but it was bumper to bumper and slow going for a couple of miles.
Hot and hazy day. Took a break from driving and had something cool - milk shakes and a "Dutch Baby" (plate-sized eggy pancake served with lemon and powdered sugar) at Elmer's, an air conditioned restaurant in Salem. Afterwards Vance napped in the air conditioned RV while I bought groceries at air conditioned Fred Meyers - like a Wal-Mart. With all our adventuring it feels good to do something ordinary.
Haying in full swing now. Saw tractors busy pulling various haying implements. We are back into square bale territory. Viv used to call them "bundles" of hay - cute! We have seen a remarkable variety of haystacks on this trip.
Seen along the way: "SnoozInn" in Wilsonville -- a Solar demonstration project --
